September 2024 – The Canada China Forum is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join the Secretariat Leadership Team.

As the Canada China Forum continues to evolve and grow, we are seeking a motivated Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our team to play a crucial role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization. The right candidate for this volunteer role is passionate in playing a key role in a young, fast-growing non-profit dedicated to fostering the next generation of Canadian leaders who are globally-minded and China-competent.

The CFO will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the Forum, ensuring the organization’s finances are transparent, accurate, and sustainable. The CFO will be a key member of the Leadership Team and must attend bi-weekly team meetings in addition to performing responsibilities asynchronously. The role is remote.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular analysis of the Forum’s financial standing and provide insights to the rest of the Leadership Team to inform decision-making.
    • Track cash reserves to ensure the organization’s operational expenses can be met.
    • Track expenditures to reduce inefficient spending. 
    • Identify and assess financial risks and collaborate with the Leadership Team to implement strategies to mitigate those risks.
    • Implement strategies to improve cash flow and savings.
  • Ensure Forum members complete payment of their annual membership fees.
  • Manage the organization’s payment platform (Stripe).
  • Administrate the organization’s bank account.
  • Oversee timely reimbursement of expenses for the Leadership Team and Forum members, ensuring compliance with internal policies, and address reimbursement-related queries.
  • Support the Leadership Team’s preparations to incorporate as a national non-profit.
  • Work with the CEO to develop and execute fundraising from partner organizations.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Past leadership experience (student clubs, extracurricular roles at work, etc.).
    • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills. 
    • At least beginner-level knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and / or reimbursement processes and principles.
    • Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
    • Demonstrated interest in China and / or international relations, policy, trade, economics, etc. 
    • Typically available during Eastern Time hours
    • Experience working in a non-profit environment (e.g., student clubs).

Weekly Time Commitment: 1-3 hours per week.
