March 2025 – As the Canada China Forum continues to evolve and grow, we are seeking a motivated Director of Membership to join our team and play a crucial role in the Forum member experience. The right candidate for this volunteer role is passionate in playing a key role in a young, fast-growing non-profit dedicated to fostering the next generation of Canadian leaders who are globally-minded and China-competent.
The Director of Membership manages the Canada China Forum’s body of members, oversees the member recruitment experience, and grows the pipeline of membership applicants. This entails leading, maintaining, and strategically improving the applying, interviewing, and onboarding experience, promoting the Forum as a desirable organization for our target audience to join, and proactively managing information about our membership body using internal tools. The Director of Membership will be a key member of the Leadership Team and must attend bi-weekly team meetings in addition to performing responsibilities asynchronously. The role is remote.
Role Responsibilities
- Execute membership recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding activities
- Continually develop interview process to evaluate candidates’ organizational alignment and experience
- Plan and execute strategic initiatives to increase the volume of applicants for Forum membership
- Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications to promote the Forum as a desirable organization for our target audience to join
- Act as the main point of contact between members and the rest of the Secretariat Team
- Support the efficient and effective resolution of internal issues raised by Forum members
- Maintain and update membership application and onboarding materials
- Maintain and update membership roster data
- Support other ad hoc initiatives of the Forum
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience successfully leading and driving engagement within large communities, such as student clubs, sports leagues, social media groups, etc.
- Experience working with or leading others within non-profits is a strong plus
- Experience interacting with a large number of customers and driving outcomes and responses to their suggestions or issues is a strong plus
- Demonstrated interest in China-related topics
- Very strong written and verbal communication skills
- Extremely well organized with the ability to successfully juggle many lines of communication across an organization
- Ability to independently identify the most impactful items to work on and execute towards them
- Ability to own and drive end-to-end delivery of complex deliverables in multi-stakeholder and collaborative environments
- Ability to take and act upon feedback from team members, and seek continuous personal and professional improvement
- Creative, self-starter attitude, very high integrity, and sense of accountability over outcomes that you influence with your work
- Willingness to contribute broadly to the Forum and collaborate with other members of the Secretariat Team
