MASTERCLASS SERIES I VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING I NOVEMBER 11th 2024 I 8:00-9:00 p.m. EST 5:00-6:00 p.m. PDT

China’s economic rise over the past four decades is unparalleled, transforming it into the world’s second-largest economy. Fueled by reforms in the late 20th century, China has built a formidable industrial base and advanced sectors like technology and infrastructure that has led to geopolitical tensions between the East and West. However, its growth model faces significant challenges today. The ageing population, rising debt levels, and geopolitical tensions, particularly with the U.S., are straining its growth potential. Moreover, efforts to rebalance the economy from an export- and investment-driven model to one that is consumption-driven are progressing slowly. Environmental degradation and inequality also present significant obstacles. Understanding these complexities is key to grasping the future trajectory of China’s economy.
